How Spot4Us handles your data

Spot4Us has no accounts and no servers of its own that store your information. This is what the app does with data.

On your phone

Your hidden, visited and favorite spots, the spots and photos you add, and your settings are stored on your phone. If you export a backup, the file goes where you choose to save it.

Location

The app asks for your location to show where you are and how far spots are. It is used on your phone and is not sent to us. Live location updates are off until you turn them on in settings, and only run while the app is open.

Photos

When you add a spot from a photo, the app reads that photo's location data on your phone. The photos you add stay on your phone.

Services the app contacts

To draw the map, the app requests map tiles from OpenStreetMap, Esri or OpenTopoMap, which reveals the area you are viewing to them. Searching for a place sends your search text to OpenStreetMap Nominatim. Spot photos in the bundled dataset load from their original image host. Opening a spot's PhotoHound page or Google Maps directions opens those services in your browser or app.

Purchases

Country pack purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play. We do not receive your payment details.
